The Patan municipality held a public hearing on Saturday, the first one since the elected representatives assumed office.
As per the rule, the public hearing had to take place in every three months. As a result, the residents of the municipality have complained that many things mentioned in the policy and program were limited to papers only.
“It is because of fear of public backlash that the public hearing was not held as the municipality has been cheating the people,” Chaman Kumar Bhandari of Patan-6 said. We are not happy with the work of the representatives.
Likewise, local resident Harish Bista of Patan-8 said that the policy and program were not put into practice.
According to reports, the municipality has more than Rs 30 million in arrears in the previous fiscal year 2074/75.
The municipality authorities on the occasion claimed that 531 projects were completed in the previous fiscal year. It had allocated Rs. 485.9 million for the year. The municipality completed 68 projects related to roads only, with Rs. 51.5 million spent on it.
Responding to questions raised by the residents on the occasion, Mayor Keshav Bahadur Chand said the work has not been as much as expected because many rights are yet to be delegated by the federal government. He also pledged to hold all programs on time in the coming days, citing various problems for the delay in the public hearing.
Chief Administrative Officer Rabin Adhikari shared at 450 projects have been selected by the municipal assembly for the current fiscal year.
