Gangster Basnet's wife arrested on charge of providing weapons for murders

Wife of gangster Sameer Man Basnet Maya Sherchan has been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Sunday. She has been arrested on charge of providing weapons for murder of the then chairman of Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) Sharad Kumar Gauchan and the then Rupandehi chairman of CPN-UML-affiliated Youth Association of Nepal Durga Tiwari. SSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh said she was arrested from Thulo Bharyang, Swoyambhu in Kathmandu on Sunday. SSP Singh said she has been arrested on the basis of statements by Lopsan Lama arrested for murder of Tiwari, and Amar Rana for Gauchan. Both of the assailants have claimed that Maya Sherchan provided pistols for the murder, according to him. Tiwari was killed in Devdaha-8 of Rupandehi on December 19, 2016 and Gauchan in Kathmandu on October 9, 2017.
