Police failed to recover the CCTV footage for investigation of the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Bhimdutta, Kanchanpur.
Police sources informed that the footage could not be recovered from the hard disk brought from Kanchanpur by the Nepal Police Headquarters even in one month. The Kanchanpur locals were infuriated stating that some of the total 17 CCTV cameras installed at Bhimdutta municipality were found smashed and some were not functioning.
Chief of Kanchanpur Police SP Kuver Bahadur Kathayat confirmed that the footage could not be recovered.
The then District Police Chief Dilli Raj Bista's son Kiran had hosted a party at Opera Hotel on the day of incident, and locals claim that Nirmala Panta was also present in the party.
