Classes have been disrupted at community schools across the country due to the strike of Nepal School Employees Union and Nepal Temporary Teachers’ Action Central Committee.
The Union has been staging a relay hunger strike in Kathmandu from September 21 while the Committee has announced community school closure for two days since Monday.
Classes at community schools have been affected due to the frequent strike by teachers and the school employees.
The Union has launched the relay hunger strike in protest against the government’s decision fixing the salary of the school employees in the range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 11,000, which according to it is ‘not adequate’. It has also accused the government of playing with the future of the school employees.
Union’s president Kamal Prasad Khatiwada alleged that the government looked the other way to their hunger strike from September 18 to 21. He added that the Union has put forth a two-point demand of salary increment and ensuring the future of the school employees.
Committee coordinator Ved Adhikari said 80 per cent of the community schools in the country were closed due to their call for closure. The Committee has been calling for filling up the vacant posts of temporary teachers.
