Chairman of a private school has been shot dead in Bhutaha, Sunsari Thursday.
A group of unidentified persons who came in motorcycles shot chairman of Rayyan National School Khursid Alam of Harinagar-2, Sunsari at 11:30 in the morning, according to police. He was shot on his temple as he got out of a teashop after drinking tea. He died on the spot.
The spot is around seven kilometers from the Indian border and the returning assailants even shot at the police personnel at the police post in Ghuski near the border who tried to stop them. Police constable Shiva Lal Paudel has been critically injured after the shooting.
Paudel is being treated at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for the bullet wounds in thigh, back and waist, according to Chief District Officer of Sunsari Prem Prakash Uprety. "We are investigating who the assailants were," CDO Uprety said.
Locals have snatched Alam's body from the police and have started to protest against the killing. Alam was advisor to the district committee of the then CPN-UML before unification of the party with CPN (Maoist Center). "He was a civil society leader and was operating a private school," former lawmaker Revati Raman Bhandari told Setopati.
