The Birtamod Municipality in Jhapa Tuesday distributed a total of 40,000 Neem saplings to the local farmers in a bid to make Birtamod city an 'organic' one.
Mayor Dhruba Kumar Shivakoti, Deputy Mayor Pabitra Mahatara Prasai, Chief Executive Officer Pashupati Khatiwada and Agriculture Officer Rajendra Kharel, among others, distributed the saplings amid a program held at a nursery at Garamani, Jhapa.
The Neem tree's bark, leaves and seeds are useful to make medicines.
Earlier, the Municipality had distributed some 10,000 fruit saplings. The Municipality aims to distribute around 400,000 fruits saplings to the farmers, shared Mayor Shiwakoti.
