Fourteen-year-old Shani Khuna of Bhagatpur, Bhimdutta municipality, who was killed in police firing a few days ago during the demonstrations against the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta, was cremated Sunday.
Earlier, the government offered the status of martyrdom to the boy, announcing to give Rs one million each to the families of both Khuna and Panta.
Province 7 Assembly member Tara Lama Tamang and (municipality) Mayor Surendra Bista reached the local Brahmadev Ghat along the Mahakali River to pay last tribute to the body of Khuna. Brahmadev Border Police Beat chief Dipendra Thapa-led police squad offered a salute to him.
According to Mayor Bista, efforts will be made for further support to the victim family. He promised additional Rs 300,000 to the bereaved family from the local government.
