The Nepal Women Association (NWA), Kathmandu, organized a program here Sunday morning to pay tribute to the late Mangaladevi Singh, the founding president of NWA.
At the program held in commemoration of her 22nd Memorial Day, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh laid a wreath on her image at Shobha Bhagawati. The prominent democratic fighter who always raised her voice for the rights of Nepali women had significant contribution to the movements launched in the country against the totalitarian Rana regime and for the restoration of democracy.
"The Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed many rights to women, but women need to fight themselves for the implementation," he asserted. He went on to say that the government formed with the help of two-third majority failed to address people's issues.
NC Kathmandu president Sabuj (Krishna) Baniya said the late Singh had a great role in transforming Ganesh Man Singh into a supreme leader. NWA Kathmandu president Bishnu Devi Pudasaini underscored the need of following the track Mangaladevi adopted.
The NWA headed by Mangaladevi Singh was established on August 8, 1974 to fight for the causes of women's emancipation and empowerment.
