Kalanki subway that came into operation from August 17 has been closed from Wednesday.
Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project (KRRIP) informed that the 800-meter underpass between Khasi Bazaar and Bafal Chowk along the Ring Road will be closed for a week as some technical works are not yet completed.
"We've blocked the vehicular movement in this section from today as technical works including installation of lights in both sides of subway and asphalting are remaining," Inspector at Traffic Police Office, Kalanki Bimal Kumar Thapa said,"With the closure of the subway, the traffic congestion has increased."
"Vehicles that took some 5 to 10 minutes to cross Kalanki are bound to wait for 20 to 25 minutes today," he added.
This is Nepal's first subway constructed as part of Kalanki-Koteshwor Ring Road Expansion.
