Tension flared up in Kanchanpur after the agitating locals clashed with police personnel on Tuesday afternoon.
The clash was ensued between locals and police personnel after the former demanded facts behind the murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta be revealed.
The police personnel fired more than 12 rounds of tear gas shells to take the situation under control, informed DSP Gyan Bahadur Seti.
The District Police Office, organizing a press conference on Monday, had made public Dilip Singh Bista, 41, of Bhimdutta municipality-19, Bagaphant as a murderer of Panta. Bista has a criminal background and had served a jail term for murder, according to police.
The irate locals are not being convinced as Bista was a person with mental retardation. The locals also enforced a shutdwon at Bhimdutta municipality protesting that police was not able to make public the true murderer (s).
The body of the 13-year-old, who had gone to a friend’s home for study on July 26, was found at a sugarcane field the next day.
A three-member CIB team under DSP Angur GC was sent to Kanchanpur on July 30 to coordinate with the local police in the investigation.
