A pair of rhinos named ‘Solti’ and ‘Mitini’ that the government is gifting to China has been sent to Kathmandu Tuesday from Chitwan.
Chief Conservation Officer of the Chitwan National Park Bed Kumar Dhakal shared that the rhinos were sent to Kathmandu Tuesday evening in a truck from Sauraha, Ratnanagar, Chitwan. Nepal Army personnel have escorted the rhinos back and forth.
The rhinos would be boarded in a cargo plane on August 16 from the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Of the two, ‘Mitini’ was taken into control from west sector of Chitwan National Park some three months ago while ‘Solti’ is a male rhino that was rescued from Tribeni in Nawalparasi from Nepal-Indo border last year after it was swept away from the monsoon flooding.
Both the rhinos would be kept in Shanghai Safari Park in China. Prior to this, Nepal gifted two rhinos named ‘Rupasi’ and ‘Bhadra’ to China.
For the take care of the rhinos, veterinary doctors and livestock technical persons would also leave for China, the officials informed.
