Incessant rain since the last two days has waterlogged the Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Zone at Basbitti, Rupani rural municipality-5 of Saptari district.
Raw materials worth hundreds of thousands of rupees have been damaged as the water has entered the industries in the area, said a local Shyam Yadav.
According to locals, there is no proper drainage facility in the industrial zone spread over 22 bigha area which results in inundation whenever it rains. The industrial zone is established with the cooperation of the government of India.
The compound wall of the industrial area collapsed due to flood last year but the government has not paid attention to repairing it. The rainwater gushes into the industrial zone through the gap on the wall.
Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Zone Industries Association president, Jivachha Yadav, urged the government to address the problem at the earliest.
Three industries are in operation in the zone at present. They include Milan Dairy Industry, Mahalaxmi Pet Industry and Krishna Food Industry while the Mahalaxmi Food Industry, S and Co Electrodes, Padma Jyoti Plastic Industry and All Nepalese Tea and Coffee Industries are closed.
