The National Youth Council (NYC) has proposed to revise the existing age range for youth stipulated in the NYC Act-2072.
The NYC's Act currently stipulates the age range from 16-40 years while the NYC has proposed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) to define the persons with either 15-25 or 16-35 age range to be youth in the Act's amendment draft.
According to NYC's executive Vice-President Madhav Dhungana, the amendment in the age range for youth was proposed in view of the international criteria.
The United Nations defines those persons between the ages of 15 and 25 as youth without any prejudice to other definitions by its Member States while most of the countries across the world stipulate the age for youth between the ages of 16-35.
The draft for amendment in age group has been submitted to the MoYS.
Meanwhile, the NYC Act has mandated to scrap the District Youth Committees established in all districts across the country within a year in the wake of the implementation of the federalism.
Currently, there is Youth Development Committees in all 77 districts.
Now onward there will be Youth Development Council in every local units, province and Center, said NYC's Under-Secretary Dhruba Raj Poudel.
