A total of 467 civil servants have withdrawn their application for voluntary retirement.
As per the request made for the same by the government, 467 employees pulled back their decision to retire voluntarily, according to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration spokesperson Suresh Adhikari.
The list includes Secretary Dr Saroj Pokharel and Santu Koirala, joint-secretaries, under-secretaries, sections officers and others.
No deadline has been set for withdrawing of the application and hence the trend is expected to grow, spokesperson Adhikari said. The government decided to ask civil servants to withdraw as retirement by many employees at the same time may disturb the functioning of civil service while also adding huge additional burden.
The withdrawal began on June 2 following the call by the present government. A total of 9,671 civil servants had applied for voluntary retirement after the previous government called for the same, especially to those who did not wish to join the provincial and the local level government service.
