Press Chautari Nepal has demanded action against the person involved in threatening editor Ujjwal Pahari.
"The incident has drawn the serious attention of the Chautari. And the perpetrator should be booked," said a statement issued by General Secretary of the Chautari Rajesh Rai. Pahari is editor of Budhabar Weekly.
The statement demanded that the government should create a favorable environment for journalists to collect and disseminate news items without any intervene, taking into account incidents of assaults and threats to journalists, and encroachment on press freedom and freedom of expression.
An unidentified person reportedly intercepted editor Pahari, on a motorcycle (Ba 75 Pa 519) heading to New Baneshwor from Bhaktapur, at Jadibuti Monday morning, and threatened him with death. Earlier, the person had also stopped him time and again on his way to office from home, and issued death threats after taking his picture, it has been reported.
Also, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kathmandu chapter has demanded action against the perpetrator.
