Maize zone program under the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project (PMAMP) run in Banke district is found becoming effective.
A total of 10 farmer groups had involved in maize farming on 350 hectares of land in the beginning of the program run in the fiscal year 2016/17. Now 35 farmer groups have been involved in maize cultivation on 621 hectares of land.
Chief of PMAMP, Banke Debesh Kumar Mishra said that a total of 1,343 farmers have now been associated with the program during two years period.
The Maize Zone program has now covered five wards of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolis, Betahani, Bankatti and Hirminiya villages of Duduwa rural municipality.
The farmers have been cultivating winter and spring maize crop under the program, a total of 40 farmer groups have been selected for rainy maize cultivation for coming fiscal year.
Seeds, pesticides and different equipment are being provided to farmers at 50-85 per cent grant under the program as well as the office has been imparting technical knowledge regarding maize cultivation.
