China has started feasibility study of Kerung-Kathmandu railway.
Eight officials of the China Railway First Survey Design Institute Group arrived in Kathmandu on Monday and have started work from Tuesday in coordination with the Department of Railways.
“We will reach up to Kerung in course of study. We will conduct study at different places today,” Communication Officer at the department Prakash Bhakta Upadhyay, who is in the study team, said.
The Chinese company was selected after an agreement between officials of the two countries in Beijing in April end to conduct feasibility study for the railway line.
The Chinese side will bear all the expenses for this study. The company will submit the report by August,” Upadhyay said.
A 33-member Chinese team led by deputy head of China Railway Administration Zhain Jian in November 2017 had done field study for Kerung-Kathmandu and Pokhara-Lumbini railway lines. The team in its report said massive study will be needed as the Kerung-Kathmandu railway line will be among the most difficult ones in the world.
