Various media organizations have condemned an incident wherein journalists were misbehaved and prevented from covering news at Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
The journalists, who reached the office of metropolitan city for reporting, were banned to cover news story.
Bharatpur Chief Administrative Officer Prem Raj Joshi and Ward-10 Chairperson Arun Pidit Bhandari had misbehaved and banned journalists from entering into the premises of the city on the presence of mayor Renu Dahal and deputy mayor Parbati Shah.
The incident took place when a team of the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry was submitting a memorandum to Bharatpur metropolis on the issue of taxation on March 27.
The organizations condemned the incident of interference on the media while covering the news of public affairs.
Issuing separate statements, Federation of Nepali journalists (FNJ) central committee and Chitwan District Committee as well as Nepal Press Union, Chitwan Chapter termed the incident preventing journalists from covering news as 'violation of press freedom'.
They have demanded the metropolis to investigate into the incident and book the guilty at the earliest.
A group of journalists including FNJ Chitwan Chapter joint-secretary and Kantipur TV correspondent Praveen Kumar Dutta, Kantipur Daily's Ramesh Kumar Poudel, Nawaraj Mishra from Kantipur TV, Sabita Shrestha from Nagarik Daily, Tulman Gurung of Annapurna Post, Geeta Gurung from Kalika FM, and Shiva Acahrya of Sauraha Online were ousted from the program site.
