Nepal Army (NA) has cancelled the tender process for leasing the modern building built for Tri-Chandra Military Hospital for commercial purpose.
The NA has cancelled the tender process stating that Everest Traders of Chandra Bahadur Shrestha did not come to sign the agreement. "We are in process of adopting other alternatives in accordance to law completing due rules and processes after the person concerned did not come despite sending a letter giving a one-month deadline, and another letter extending the deadline by seven more days," the NA has said issuing a press statement.
The NA's decision to lease the building to Everest Traders for 15 years at around Rs 500 million per year was widely criticized with many retired generals including former NA Chief Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana calling it irresponsible.
The then defense minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan talking to Setopati had expressed displeasure at the decision taken without even informing the line ministry.
The building was constructed for the 90-year-old Tri-Chandra Military Hospital built with British aid after the First World War for treatment of the injured soldiers.
