Govt to give public holiday on Prithvi Narayan Shah's birthday

The government will give public holiday on the birthday of Prithvi Narayan Shah Jayanti on Poush 27 (Janaury 11 in 2018). The Cabinet meeting Thursday has taken the decision to give public holiday on the birthday of the king who unified Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa confirmed through a tweet.

The government had stopped giving public holiday on the occasion after the political change of 2006. The day was earlier celebrated as the National Unity Day in honor of the king from Gorkha who unified many small states to form the modern Nepal.
