Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) Nepal has announced Rs 5 million each to the families of those killed during the Madhes movement unveiling the party's election manifesto at Jaleshwor of Mahottari on Thursday.
Speaking during the unveiling program, RJP leader Rajendra Mahato claimed that the RJP-Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal (FSFN) alliance will form the government in Province 2. "The Madhes government will provide Rs 5 million each to the martyrs' families," Mahato confirmed.
The announcement made by the then United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) at the beginning of Madhes movement to provide Rs 5 million for each person that may be killed, as an incentive, was widely condemned.
Mahato said the manifesto of the party does not mention about providing Rs 5 million to the martyrs' families but assured the RJP-FSFN government to be formed in Province 2 will provide the amount.
Besides the financial support, Mahato also committed to provide jobs under the provincial government to the families of Madhesi martyrs, make arrangements for free education of martyrs' children and a separate financial package for self-employment of the families of martyrs.
"The country has gone into federalism due to martyrdom in the Madhes movement, and the dream of forming of our own government in our own province is coming true," Mahato said, "We will not allow the honor of martyrs smeared in any way and all the responsibility of martyrs' families will be borne by the Madhes government."
