The Baitadi district in-charge of the Communist Party of Nepal Basudev Joshi has been arrested by police here on Monday. Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) is led by Netra Bikram Chand.
He was arrested from his house at Rudreshwar of Dilashaini rural municipality-3 in the district. It is said Joshi was observing the mourning rituals of his father when he was arrested.
Deputy Superintendent Heramba Sharma of the District Police Office Baitadi said Joshi was arrested as a preventive measure as the cadres and leaders of the Chand-led group are found to be indulged in various anti-election activities in different districts and instilling fear among the people in the run-up of the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections.
Joshi's family members have, however, protested his arrest saying he was held while still in mourning and for no wrong. Police said it has been 11 days since Joshi's father passed away and he was suspected of plotting anti-election activities in the district.
Police have arrested six leaders and cadres of the Chand-led party from the district before this also on the charge of anti-election activities.
