The Supreme Court has registered a writ petition filed by Dan Bahadur Karki, seeking his reinstatement as inspector general of police (IGP).
Advocate Tikadhwaj Kunwar confirmed that the petition had been registered.
Kunwar had filed the petition at the Supreme Court on Karki's behalf on Thursday, a day after the government removed him from the post of IGP.
The Supreme Court administration also confirmed the registration of the petition.
According to Advocate Kunwar, the hearing has been scheduled for November 16.
"Because of the festivals, the hearing was expected to take place after Tihar. Although the court would have been open for one day in between, on the 13th, there was a possibility that it might take time for people to return after the holidays. So, the hearing was scheduled for the 16th," he said.
At its meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet decided to remove Karki from the post of IGP and appoint him as the prime minister's security adviser.
However, Karki declined to accept the appointment as security adviser and instead filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the government's decision.
The government appointed Manoj KC as the new IGP after removing Karki.
Karki filed the petition arguing that the government's decision was against the Constitution, existing laws, and Supreme Court precedents.
In his petition, Karki has stated that he was removed from his command and responsibilities without any legal basis or due procedure and without being given an opportunity to explain himself or be heard.
