The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has called a meeting for November 2.
Although the committee has completed the hearing of Jigyan Kumar Thapa, who has been proposed as Nepal’s ambassador to Japan, it has yet to make a decision on whether to endorse his nomination.
The committee must decide on Thapa’s nomination by November 5. Failure to do so would clear the way for the government to appoint Thapa as ambassador.
The rules governing the joint meetings of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly stipulate that the Parliamentary Hearing Committee must complete the hearing process within 45 days of receiving a nominee’s name.
If the committee fails to make a decision within 45 days, the government can implement its decision.
Committee members remain divided over whether to approve or reject Thapa’s nomination.
The nomination was put on hold at the proposal of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti.
The committee is preparing to decide on Thapa’s nomination at its meeting on November 2 or 3.
