Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane held a meeting on Wednesday.
A highly placed source said that the two held a four-hour meeting on Wednesday at Lamichhane’s residence in Hattigauda.
RSP President Lamichhane recently returned to Nepal after a pilgrimage to India. Following his return, PM Shah visited him.
During the meeting, the two discussed Lamichhane’s visit to India, as well as several other issues, including lawmaker Khagendra Sunar, Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki, and the government’s plan to introduce an ordinance related to civil servants.
The RSP has been conducting an internal investigation after lawmaker Sunar was recently accused of verbally abusing a woman over the phone.
According to the source, the two also discussed Nepal Police Inspector General Karki. Various media outlets have reported speculation that he could be removed from his post. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
Lawmaker Sunar had been raising questions over alleged corruption in the procurement of uniforms during the election period. A parliamentary committee is also investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, the government has recently been working to introduce a Civil Service Act. It has withdrawn a bill that had already been registered with the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
The government’s move to withdraw the bill and introduce the legislation through an ordinance has sparked widespread concern among civil servants.
The proposed legislation reportedly seeks to retire civil servants who have completed 30 years of service or reached the age limit of 55.
The two also discussed various other issues concerning the Cabinet, the party, and lawmakers.
