A total of 30 candidates, including three for party president, have registered their candidacies for various office-bearer positions at the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention.
Gagan Thapa, Shyam Krishna Khadki, and Kishor Singh Rathore have registered their candidacies for party president. Thapa registered his nomination on Tuesday evening.
Bishwa Prakash Sharma is the sole candidate for senior vice-president and has been elected unopposed.
Pushpa Bhusal is the only candidate for female vice-president and has also been elected unopposed.
Nine candidates have filed their nominations for vice-president under the open category: Chandra Bhandari, Devraj Chalise, Surendra Raj Pandey, Madhu Acharya, Minendra Rijal, Deepak Giri, Dhan Raj Gurung, Govinda Bhattarai, and Chandramohan Yadav.
Five candidates have registered their nominations for the vice-president post under the inclusive category: Jeevan Pariyar, Binod Chaudhary, Farmullah Mansur, Sita Gurung, and Ranjit Karn.
Eight candidates are contesting for the general secretary posts under the open category. They include Pradip Paudel, Gururaj Ghimire, Uday Shumsher Rana, Amar Singh Pun, Nain Singh Mahar, Shankar Tiwari, Sunil Sharma, and Santosh Upadhyaya.
Three candidates have filed their nominations for female general secretary: Dila Sangraula, Dina Upadhyaya, and Rita Khanal.
In total, there are three candidates for party president, one each for senior vice-president and female vice-president, nine for vice-president under the open category, five for vice-president under the inclusive category, eight for general secretary under the open category, and three for female general secretary.
Nominations for the election of new leadership under the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention were registered on Tuesday.
For nomination registration at the Rastriya Sabha Griha (City Hall), the election committee made documents including the prescribed nomination form, details of proposers and seconders, vouchers of fee payment, and certificates of general convention representatives mandatory.
The general convention will elect a new central working committee of the Nepali Congress. Following amendments to the party statute, the Nepali Congress central committee will now consist of 297 members, including 25 office-bearers.
