The CPN-UML has warned that leaders and cadres who publicly criticize, oppose, or insult the party’s policies, decisions, and leadership will face disciplinary action.
The warning was issued in an inter-party directive released by the party while making public the decisions of its central committee meeting held from September 21 to 24.
The directive, signed by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, states that those who publicly criticize, oppose, condemn, or insult the party’s policies, decisions, and leadership, engage in factionalism, or carry out anarchic or undisciplined activities will be brought within the scope of disciplinary action.
“From now on, anyone who publicly criticizes, opposes, condemns, or insults the party’s policies, decisions, and leadership, engages in factionalism, or carries out anarchic or undisciplined activities will be asked for an explanation and face action,” the directive states.
It has also been decided that the central committee will authorize the organization department to take action against such activities, according to the directive.
“If such activities are found to have been carried out, the central committee will authorize the organization department to initiate and take disciplinary action,” the directive states.
The UML has said that it will also activate the central disciplinary commission to control indiscipline within the party.
The directive states that if the central disciplinary commission faces any obstacles or difficulties in carrying out its responsibilities accordingly, the central committee will facilitate and support its work by removing such hurdles if necessary.
Latest central committee meeting to be treated as a ‘cutoff meeting’
The UML has described its latest central committee meeting as a “cutoff meeting” aimed at restoring discipline within the party.
The directive includes a section titled “Cutoff Meeting for Restoring Discipline,” incorporating issues raised by Chairma Oli at the central committee meeting.
Stating that the party has decided to completely prohibit public criticism, opposition, factionalism, and anarchic activities within its ranks, the directive says: “The tendency to publicly criticize or oppose the party’s policies, decisions, and leadership, engage in arbitrary, anarchic, or undisciplined activities, or engage in factionalism will be completely prohibited and discipline will be restored in the party.”
The directive also suggests that past activities will not immediately be used as grounds for disciplinary action, while members’ conduct from now on will be judged under a new standard.
“Whatever anyone has said or done until today will be left aside. The ongoing central committee meeting will be considered the cutoff meeting,” the directive states.
