The CPN-UML has clarified the responsibilities and role of Senior Leader Bidya Devi Bhandari within the party.
The party outlined Bhandari’s role in an inter-party directive issued while making public the decisions of the UML central committee meeting held from September 21 to 24.
The meeting had selected Bhandari as a senior leader of the CPN-UML.
According to the directive, Bhandari will hold the second-highest rank after the party chair. She will participate in meetings of the party’s central committee, politburo, standing committee, and secretariat.
Bhandari has also been assigned the responsibility of assisting the chairperson and contributing to the party’s efforts to make appropriate and timely decisions.
“As a senior leader, [she will] promote and uphold the party’s principles, programs, policies, and prestige,” the directive states. “She will carry out tasks assigned by the central committee, politburo, standing committee, and secretariat.”
The UML said that the decision concerning Bhandari’s role will be presented for approval at the party’s upcoming statute convention.
The directive states that Bhandari’s appointment was made under the provision for removing obstacles and resolving difficulties in Article 105 of the party statute, as well as under Article 13(a), which empowers the committee to exercise the authority to make decisions as its supreme body between two general conventions while remaining accountable to the national convention.
Through the decision, the UML has further clarified Senior Leader Bhandari’s formal role and responsibilities within the party.
