The Special Court has found suspended Madhesh Provincial Assembly member Saroj Kumar Singh guilty of corruption, sentencing him to prison and imposing a fine.
A bench comprising Special Court Chairman Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and members Umesh Koirala and Bidur Koirala sentenced Singh to four years and one month in prison and fined him Rs 3.85 million.
Furthermore, the court has ordered the recovery of Rs 154,005 rupees as compensation in accordance with Section 41(3) of the Crime Victims Protection Act, 2018.
Singh, who was elected as a provincial assembly member from Mahottari Constituency 4 'B', was found to have engaged in corruption by accepting Rs 3.85 million in commissions from consumer committees by abusing his official position.
