Former prime minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been released into the custody of his family.
According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Oli was handed over to his family on Thursday morning.
He was released into the care of his wife, Radhika Shakya.
Police arrested Oli on the morning of March 28. Since then, he has been at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for health check-ups. He was handed over to his family while still undergoing treatment there. A family source said that he will remain in the hospital for some time.
The process of releasing former home minister Ramesh Lekhak is also underway.
Following an order from the Supreme Court, the District Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu decided on Thursday to release both individuals on personal recognizance.
Police had initiated an investigation against both of them for offenses related to homicide in connection with the events of September 8.
