The Nepali Congress has demanded that the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives immediately convene a meeting to discuss recent controversial developments linked to the government and various state agencies.
Four Nepali Congress lawmakers serving on the committee have written to committee Chairman Hari Dhakal, requesting that a meeting be called immediately. Earlier, lawmakers from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) had also submitted similar requests.
The four Nepali Congress members on the committee are Arjun Narsingh KC, Nishkal Rai, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, and Rekha Kumari Yadav. They submitted a formal request to the committee chairman seeking an urgent meeting.
In their letter, the lawmakers raised concerns over the alleged misuse of state machinery in the case involving Inam Sapkota, who has been described as a middleman; unauthorized access to the phones and audio recordings of a person in police custody; and questions surrounding the impartiality of the investigation.
They have demanded a factual investigation into allegations that unauthorized individuals gained access to evidence related to people under investigation and that attempts were made to destroy evidence.
The lawmakers have also called for clarification regarding claims and activities by Inam Sapkota, who allegedly claimed to have close links with Prime Minister Balen Shah and the Prime Minister's Office.
Similarly, they questioned the decision to appoint Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki as the prime minister's security adviser before the end of his tenure and appoint Manoj KC as the new IGP in his place.
They said that the government and the Home Ministry should be asked to explain the reasons behind the change in police leadership.
The letter also states that incidents involving the crackdown on media outlets and the arrest and subsequent release of journalists have raised questions about press freedom and the exercise of state power.
The lawmakers have urged the committee to summon the prime minister, home minister, home secretary, and Nepal Police inspector general to attend the meeting and provide explanations on these issues.
The lawmakers submitted their request under Rule 178 of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2026, calling for an immediate committee meeting to ensure accountability of state agencies to Parliament and facilitate necessary investigations and directives.
