Top leaders of CPN-UML appear to be trailing by a significant margin in the ongoing vote counting for the House of Representatives elections.
Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been left far behind by senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balen Shah. According to the details updated by the Election Commission, while Shah has secured 26,062 votes, UML Chairman Oli has obtained just 6,794 votes.
Similarly, most of the UML's office bearers are also trailing. Out of 19 UML office bearers, 12 were contesting the election. Secretary Rajan Bhattarai has already been defeated, while other office bearers have not been able to take the lead.
According to the vote count so far, Secretary Sherdhan Rai is leading in Bhojpur. While Rai has secured 3,009 votes, Dhurba Raj Rai of Shram Sanskriti Party has obtained 2,514 votes.
In Taplejung, Kshitiz Thebe is leading with 6,582 votes. His competitor Gajendra Prasad Tumyang Limbu of Nepali Congress, has secured 6,192 votes.
In Ilam-2, UML’s Suhang Nembang is leading. While he has secured 7,650 votes, Sudip Rai of Shram Sanskriti Party has got 6,243 votes.
In Dhankuta, Rajendra Kumar Rai is leading with 8,154 votes. His competitor San Bahadur Rai of Shram Sanskriti Party, has secured 6,784 votes. In Udayapur-1, Ambar Bahadur Rayamajhi is maintaining a lead of 281 votes, ahead of his competitor Surya Bahadur Tamang of RSP. Rayamajhi has secured 3,077 votes, while Tamang has 2,796 votes.
In Madhesh Province, UML is leading in only one seat. In Dhanusha-1, UML’s Ram Chandra Mandal is leading with 441 votes, while Matrika Prasad Yadav of NepalI Communist Party has secured 297 votes.
In Bagmati Province as well, UML has a lead in only one seat. In Sindhuli-1, UML’s Pradip Katuwal has secured 10,228 votes, while his competitor Ujjwal Baral of Congress has secured 9,720 votes.
In Gandaki, UML is also leading in only one seat. In Syangja-2, UML’s Khim Bahadur Thapa has secured 5,619 votes, while Bhagwat Prakash Malla of Congress has obtained 3,996 votes. In Lumbini, UML is leading in only one seat as well. In Palpa-1, UML’s Narayan Prasad Acharya has secured 9,273 votes, while Sandip Rana of Congress has secured 8,854 votes. In Karnali Province, UML is also leading in one seat. UML’s Laxmi Prasad Pokhrel has secured 5,565 votes, while Dikpal Kumar Shahi of Congress has obtained 4,115 votes.
In Far West Province, however, UML is leading in three seats. In Bajhang, Ain Mahar is ahead by 683 votes. He has secured 9,113 votes. His competitor, Prakash Snehi, has secured 8,430 votes.
In Achham-2, Yagya Bahadur Bogati has secured 2,766 votes, while his competitor Pushpa Bahadur Shah of Congress has obtained 1,739 votes. In Darchula, UML’s Ganesh Singh Thagunna has secured 4,232 votes, while Dharmananda Joshi of Congress has secured 4,167 votes.
