The government has decided to grant a three-day public holiday for the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Government spokesperson and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said that the decision was made by a Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
Previously, on Sunday, the Election Commission had recommended that the government declare a three-day holiday on March 4, 5, and 6.
Voting under the House of Representatives election will take place on March 5. With Tuesday’s decision, there will effectively be a week-long break during the election period.
This year, the festival of Holi falls on March 2 in the hilly regions and on March 3 in the Terai. Additionally, March 7 is a Saturday (weekend), and March 8 marks International Women's Day.
