Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath to Minister Sharma at a special ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas on Friday.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki had appointed Sharma as foreign minister earlier on Friday.
Following Sharma’s appointment, PM Karki’s Cabinet now has 15 members.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Vice-president Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, PM Karki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, senior government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, chiefs and senior officials of constitutional bodies and security agencies.
A former lieutenant general of the Nepal Army, Sharma previously served as the secretariat coordinator of the then Special Committee on Army Integration. He has also served as a force commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission and is currently the chairperson of the National Defense University.
