Voting for the election of new leadership at the ongoing 11th general convention of the CPN-UML has been postponed to 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Outgoing General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said that the voting was postponed due to technical reasons.
"Voting could not take place today due to technical reasons," he said. "It will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. at Bhrikuti Mandap."
The voting was rescheduled since the list of candidates was received late and it took time to enter the names into the electronic voting machines.
The machine manufacturer had received the list of candidates only on Monday night. Although the details were entered accordingly, the party's election commission later sent a corrected list of names in alphabetical order. It is reported that additional time was needed to adjust the already entered data based on the alphabetical correction, causing the delay beyond the scheduled time.
Preparations are underway to set up 100 electronic voting machines for the elections.
The UML's election commission had earlier published a notice stating that voting would begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
