Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been unanimously recommended as the party’s candidate from Dadeldhura for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.
Having won the election from Dadeldhura seven times, Deuba is preparing to run as a candidate for the eighth time.
NC leader Indra Bahadur Karki, who is also the chairman of Ganyapdhura Rural Municipality, informed Setopati that Deuba has been recommended as the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives election under the first-past-the-post electoral system.
"He is going to be a candidate for the eighth time on our request. We have unanimously recommended his name," Karki said. "He was attacked during the Gen Z movement, and now he cannot run for party president. Therefore, we will make him a candidate for the last time and get him elected."
Karki and other leaders from Dadeldhura recently visited Deuba at his residence in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. During the meeting, Deuba inquired about the political atmosphere in Dadeldhura.
On the request of the leaders from his home district, Deuba agreed to contest the election. "We asked him to contest the election one more time, and he has accepted our request," Karki said.
Deuba has been winning elections from Dadeldhura since 1991.
The names of Narabhan Kami and Man Kumari Thapa have been recommended for the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system, while Bhim Saud and Raghu Bhatta have been recommended for the National Assembly election.
