CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has said that the unification between eight parties, including her party and the CPN (Maoist Center), will hinder broader left unity and the progressive movement.
Speaking at a press conference held at Basera Hotel in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Jhakri said that since the parties heading toward unification are doing so merely to seek shelter, it will obstruct overall left unity.
“Because what’s happening is everyone is only looking for shelter there. Shelter means looking for personal security. And for the sake of personal security, everything will be bargained,” she said.
Jhakri added that people have compared this unification to Banchare Danda.
“People are asking whether this unification will reorganize the party and the movement, or if it is a Banchare Danda. Symbolically, Banchare Danda is a dumping site, where we are dumping both organic and inorganic waste,” she said.
She said that even though the party has 300,000 voters, it is not in their hands.
"What we do is, we unify with a party whose ideology and principles align. By doing so, let us at least move forward in a transformative manner. We also need transformation," she said.
Jhakri also appealed to party leaders across the country, from ward committees to the central level, to stand united.
“Let us stand wherever we are, stand your ground. The path is blocked; let’s watch for a moment, see that there is light beyond the horizon, and then step forward again,” she said.
