The land-related bill is finally set to be sent to the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives for discussion.
Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation Balaram Adhikari is preparing to present a proposal to send the bill to amend some Nepal acts related to land to the committee during Thursday’s House of Representatives meeting.
UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula said that the decision to send the bill to the committee was made with the consensus of political parties.
Previously, UML had insisted on passing the bill directly through a full meeting of the House of Representatives. However, coalition partner Nepali Congress maintained that the bill should be sent to a committee for discussion.
On July 9, the bill was included in the tentative agenda for passage through a full House meeting. However, NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma and other lawmakers, who had proposed amendments, insisted on sending the bill to a committee.
As the NC remained firm on its stance, the UML also eventually agreed to send the bill to the committee.
“The minister and Congress lawmakers have reached an understanding to finalize it quickly through the committee,” one lawmaker said. “Although the government is ready to accept the amendments proposed by Congress lawmakers, other parties might raise objections, so we believe it should be sent to the committee.”
The land-related bill will now undergo clause-wise discussion in the Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources Committee.
