Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has raised the issue of COVID-19 pandemic and Sindhupalchowk landslide during the meeting with Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli on Monday.
Deuba had reached Baluwatar with NC central committee member Ramesh Lekhak after PM Oli invited him for meeting. CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal also joined the trio in the meeting.
Deuba asked PM Oli why the government did not shift locals of Lidi in Jugal rural municipality-2, Sindhupalchowk despite the locals requesting they be transferred to a safe place 10 days back, Lekhak said after the meeting.
Bodies of 22 persons have been recovered from the rubble following the landslide in Lidi Friday morning while 17 persons are still missing.
Deuba also urged PM Oli to expand the scope of PCR testing and prepare a new strategy to fight the pandemic pointing that the infection is surging in recent days and has spread at the community level.
"PM said the process for constitutional appointments should be moved forward and a meeting be held for that," Lekhak stated. "We told him we are positive and asked him to convene a meeting."
Lekhak said nothing concrete was discussed about the appointments today and PM Oli said a meeting will again be held on Tuesday.
Chief Secretary of NC Krishna Prasad Paudel said the main opposition leader also drew the attention of PM Oli to the dispute and malpractices in the Tribhuvan University (TU). Deuba told Oli, who is chancellor of the TU, that political prejudice is seen to be in play instead of running the TU in accordance to the set procedures and culture.
