The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has completed a few party departments.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba nominated deputy chiefs, secretaries and members in party departments Sunday night as per clause 25(9) of the party statute, according to the party's Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.
The faction of senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel has been accusing Deuba of trying to influence the next general convention by forming party departments after announcement of general convention. But Deuba has continued the appointment spree nominating leaders in party departments and senior politician assembly.
Deuba had already appointed chiefs in 20 of the 47 party departments. He has now nominated deputy chiefs, secretaries and members in those departments.
The departments need to be formed within six months of the general convention but Deuba is making the appointments when his four-year term has already ended and he is on a one-year extension as party chief.
Paudel has recently handed over a letter to Deuba accusing him of trying to influence the next general convention by interfering in distribution and renewal of active membership, by forming party departments after announcement of general convention violating the code of conduct, and slammed his unilateral announcement to make Sunil Thapa, who joined the party quitting RPP, joint general secretary.
The Paudel faction is further irked after Deuba recently nominated 479 cadres and leaders of different districts above 65 years to the senior politician assembly led by him.
Paudel had raised the issue even during the meeting of office-bearers on Thursday. But Deuba replied that he wants to form committees and departments in consensus and pointed that Paudel has not provided names despite repeatedly being asked to do so. Deuba pointed that there is still time and urged Paudel to provide the names.
