The ruling CPN flew rebel candidate on a chopper but could not bring him on time to get the candidacy for provincial assembly seat of Baglung-2 (B) in Gandaki withdrawn.
Sher Man Gharti was flown to Baglung from Hotel Durbar at Burtibang on a Prabhu Air chopper but he reached the Office of the Chief Election Officer only after the deadline for withdrawing candidacy expired at one Sunday afternoon.
CPN has decided to support Rastriya Janamokta candidate Khim Bikram Shahi in the constituency and has not fielded any candidate. But CPN cadre Gharti filed nomination as an independent candidate on Thursday.
Gharti, who has served as chairman of the then Bobang VDC in the past, had contested for mayor of Dhorpatan municipality in the last local election on a CPN (Maoist Center) ticket. He lost the election to Dev Kumar Nepali contesting on a CPN-UML ticket. The two parties have since unified to form ruling CPN.
Nepali flew Gharti on the chopper that the former uses to get the candidacy withdrawn but to no avail, CPN Chairman in Baglung Indra Lal Sapkota confirmed.
