President of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba has alleged the government of trying to drag the president into controversy.
Speaking during the discussion on government's policies and programs in the parliament on Sunday, Deuba has compared the style of President Bidya Devi Bhandari's presentation of the policies and programs with that of British queen.
"The government has dragged the president into additional controversy by asking her to address in the style of British queen. This is not a good omen for democratic republic," Deuba opined.
President Bhandari had used the term ‘my government’ while presenting the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year Friday afternoon marking the use of the term in the parliament for the first time since the abolition of monarchy in the country 11 years ago.
Criticizing the government's policies and programs, Deuba, who is also parliamentary party leader of NC, urged the party's lawmakers to vote against it.
He alleged the government of not acting in spirit of federalism and making a planned attack on the press and freedom of expression. "The list presented as achievements has been proved to be hollow," he claimed. "The policies and programs say people's democracy even as democracy is complete in itself."
He also raised questions on lack of completion of Melamchi and Upper Tamakoshi projects. "The Bheri Babai Project started by Nepali Congress government has been publicized as if this government had started it. There have been betrayal and irresponsibility in Budhi Gandaki," he pointed.
He claimed that the PM's employment program has not created even a single job in one year. "The government acted as if it had brought the Social Security Act but no step has been taken for implementation," he added.
He also accused the government of weaving a web of corruption and also asked questions about the railway. "The government itself is unaware about feasibility, cost, benefits and resources required for railway," he stated and commented that the railway connecting China and India should be developed only with grant.
He alleged PM KP Sharma Oli of making claims as if ships have come to Nepal when not a single waterway has been connected with India. "Steamer, that has been in operation since Rana regime, has been publicized as if it is a new invention (by the government)," he commented.
