Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) led by Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav and Naya Shakti Party Nepal led by former PM Baburam Bhattarai are close to unification.
Leaders of the two parties are involved in intense discussion for unification in recent days. Naya Shakti leader Navaraj Subedi said the two parties have agreed on the issue of keeping two chairmen, like CPN has, after unification but agreement has yet to be reached on the model of power sharing between the two.
"We have already agreed to form a committee including central members of both the parties. But we are still discussing the number of office-bearers," Subedi stated.
Agreement has yet to be reached even on some ideological issues. "Both the sides have agreed to form a new alternative party that stands between liberal communism and communist socialism," he revealed. "But we have yet to agree on statute, manifesto and organizational structure."
Another Naya Shakti leader said the party has proposed the unified party be named Socialist Party.
FSFN has also reportedly agreed to postpone its upcoming general convention if unification materializes but FSFN leaders have yet to publicly speak about unification.
General Secretary of FSFN Ram Sahaya Yadav said there is chance of unification of the two parties in the future but added he cannot set a date for that. He reasoned that FSFN has not been able to discuss seriously as it is preparing for the impending general convention.
The three-day general convention is scheduled to start on May 11 in Janakpur.
