Formation of commission on international obligations related to human rights demanded

The conflict victims and civil society have demanded the government to form a commission on international obligations related to human rights. Participants of a program organized by conflict victims and human rights activists here Monday, demanded this, saying the previous act was not of international responsibility. Saying the previous act had not guaranteed transitional justice and was not victim-friendly, they stressed the need of forming Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons by amending the previous act. On the occasion, Chairperson of Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP), Badri Prasad Bhusal stressed that the government should amend the act rather than rushing in forming commissions, saying it would be injustice to victims if commissions were formed without amending the act. The Supreme Court, four years ago, issued orders for amending the act. Some 200 people including human rights activists, conflict victims, leaders of civil society and lawyers had participated in the program.
