The government has stopped the process of recruiting staffers through the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC did not publish notice to invite applications for recruitment of joint secretaries, under secretaries or 11
th and ninth level officers equivalent to that on the last Wednesday of the sixth month of the Nepali calendar as per its regular schedule following the government’s instruction.
The notice was not published after receiving a letter instructing it to not announce vacancy for two months as per the Cabinet decision of October 14, according to PSC Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma. “This decision has affected the regular schedule,” Sharma told Setopati.
Sharma said the PSC received the letter on October 15 and many ministries and bodies had not even submitted demand for staffers by then. But the numbers for health and judicial services had been received by then.
“The required number of staffers and their positions were not decided. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration also had not submitted demand,” he added.
The PSC publishes annual calendar mentioning the dates for written examinations and interviews for recruitment. The PSC had scheduled written examinations for 297 days in the last year. The PSC generally schedules examinations on the days of public holiday.
Sharma stated that there will be lack of time for recruitment later if examinations are not held and vacancy not announced for two months. “There will be extreme pressure of work later if we do not schedule examinations at all for two months,” he reasoned.
The PSC earlier was recruiting staffers as per the annual calendar. It will now have to prepare a new schedule due to the break of two months.
