Ishwar Pokharel has secured more votes than KP Sharma Oli in the election for central members at the 11th general convention of the CPN-UML.
The UML has a provision that allows candidates contesting for office-bearer positions to also run for the post of central member.
While Oli won the election for party chairman, Pokharel outperformed him in the open category for central members.
Pokharel secured 1,099 votes for the central member position, while Oli received 979 votes.
In contrast, Oli defeated Pokharel with nearly triple the votes in the race for chairman. Oli was elected UML chairman for a third term with 1,663 votes, while Pokharel received 564 votes.
