The government has called the doctors agitating against the new General Code for dialogue.
Minister of State for Health and Population Surendra Kumar Yadav has called the doctors to the Health Ministry at 11 Monday morning for dialogue.
“State minister has called us for dialogue. We will go but will also continue our agitation,” President of Nepal Medical Association (NMA) Mukti Ram Shrestha told Setopati.
The ministry issuing a statement on Sunday had warned the agitating doctors of action as per the Essential Services Act citing natural disasters like flood and landslides, and infectious and communicable diseases in the current season.
The doctors stopped services except emergency on Sunday protesting the provision about medical treatment in the new General Code. Administrative works have been stopped in hospitals across the country even on Monday.
The doctors want amendment of the clauses 230-233 in the new General Criminal Code.
NMA President Shrestha said the doctors have taken to the streets due to the injustice, and stressed that they will resign en masse instead of stopping agitation due to the government’s warning. “We will engage in dialogue but also appeal our colleagues to resign en masse if the government arrests doctors,” he added.
