The special committee for parliamentary hearing on Wednesday failed to reach a decision on the endorsement of Deepak Raj Joshi for the post of Chief Justice. The next meeting has been scheduled for Friday.
Earlier, the committee on July 26 had ended the parliament hearing without reaching any decision. The meetings scheduled for Friday, Sunday and Monday also were postponed. The meeting scheduled for 3 pm on Wednesday also started late.
Lawmaker of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Yogesh Bhattarai said the meeting of Wednesday was scheduled for Friday after the Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers insisted on taking decision after holding internal discussion.
“NC has asked for time to decide on this matter. We’ve postponed the meeting for Friday after NC threatened to boycott the meeting if the decision were taken today,” Bhattarai said, “The next meeting will be the final one. It is not right to extend the time for the issue. They’ve asked for time and this is the final extension.”
Meanwhile, Bhimsen Das Pradhan of NC said that the meeting did not even enter into this matter.
“We did not even enter into the subject matter of discussion. We are trying to reach the point of agreement,” Pradhan said.
Endorsement of Joshi has been stalled due to the dispute about his educational certificates.
