Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar has said that the government would ensure effective implementation of the government's action plan to guarantee drinking water to one and all in the country within three years.
Addressing the queries raised by lawmakers under the Appropriation Bill-2075 at the meeting of House of Representative held here Tuesday, Minister Magar the government was effortful to ensure clean drinking water to people across the country as enshrined by the constitution to them.
Stating that the government had allocated Rs 34 billion budget to the Ministry of Water Supply in the upcoming fiscal year, Minister Magar said that the local, provincial and federal government would make integrated efforts for timely implementation of all the drinking water projects that are underway.
She shared that the Ministry has prepared an action-plan aimed at timely completion of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project and the Ministry has taken measures to resolve the issues surrounding the delays of Melamchi Drinking Water Project owing to the construction entrepreneurs.
According to Minister Magar, the process for the construction of Sewage Processing Center in various places in the capital city has been started and government's 'One House: One Tap and One Toilet' program was in the phase of implementation.
Furthermore, she said that initiatives such as rainwater harvesting and conservation of water sources were taken to tackle the issues related to drinking in Chure area and depleting source of underground water in tarai.
"The government has also launched phase-wise programs to ensure arsenic-free water to the people of tarai," said Minister Magar.
Lawmakers Prem Subal, Meena Pandey, Parbati DC Chaudhary, Anil Jha and Chandrakanta Chaudhari had sought further clarification from Minister Magar, saying they were not satisfied with Minister's explanations.
