Nepali Congress (NC) has appointed three office-bearers including vice president over two years after the 13
th general convention.
Bimalendra Nidhi has been appointed vice president, Purna Bahadur Khadka general secretary and Prakash Sharan Mahat joint general secretary.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed the names during the meeting of elected central committee members on Friday. The elected central committee members then endorsed Deuba’s proposal with majority. All three office-bearers are close to Deuba.
The three coincidentally also had all lost the House of Representatives (HoR) elections late last year. Nidhi lost from Dhanusha, Khadka from Surkhet and Mahat from Kathmandu.
The party statute requires the elected president to nominate office-bearers within two months of general convention but Deuba had not done so even two years after the 13
th general convention in March 2016.
The Ram Chandra Paudel faction, meanwhile, has opposed the appointments calling it against the party statute.
"The appointments that should have been made two months after the general convention have been made after 26 months. They could have been appointed after amending the statute. But president has taken an illegal decision ignoring our advice. We take exception to that," central committee member Pradeep Paudel told Setopati.
